Safety Engineer / Specialist – Mountain View, CA

Position Description
Will support the NASA Ames occupational health program by providing safety program development, implementation, coordination, and training. Will support safety programs such as:

• Construction safety oversight of demolition, refurbishing and new construction projects.
• Fall protection oversight and training as authorized user.
• Crane/Man-lift.
• Mishap reporting.
• VPP inspection.
• Lock-out/tag-out.
• Heavy equipment safety.
• Facility safety.
• Machine guarding.
• Electrical safety (including high voltage electrical power safety).
• Safety postings/signs.
• Safety committee management
• And, other types of safety programs.

Required Skills
4+ years of experience in safety requirements and compliance. Must have comprehensive knowledge of the safety field and the ability to operate independently and to complete difficult and complex assignments. Must have good leadership, analytical, and reasoning skills as well as the ability to communicate complex ideas and provide innovative solutions. Experience with hazard investigation and reporting required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite. Safety audit experience and construction inspection experience preferred. Mishap investigation and reporting and crane/man-lift authorized user/train the trainer experience, preferred. Experience with NASA safety standards, procedures and requirements, preferred.

Must be a US Citizen or a permanent residence and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to enter the applicable government facility.

BS in science or engineering, industrial technology, safety management, related discipline, or equivalent.
